we are sort of hung up, just a little bit, on getting the apartment. close of escrow is now october 7. i am so tired of waiting! we put in an offer on august 15.
fortunately we are going to start moving in early, on sept 30. there will be a ton to do. for better or worse, for instance, the small walk-in closet in the bedroom has no closet rods or shelves. we will probably do an Elfa installation, but when we move, where will we hang the clothes?
i have been using Domino's Deco File website to compile pictures to remind me what's what.

final walkthrough
we did our final walkthrough yesterday, just six days before we supposedly close escrow. we have a pretty good laundry list of things that they did wrong (or neglected to do) - which is sad on a newly renovated unit, but sort of par for the course for housing in this price range...
anyway, we have had a long time to think about what we'd like to do to the place. maybe too long! i've been obsessing over tiny details prematurely. but here are some of the first ideas, based on the reality of what the unit looks like.
the kitchen is something like 7 x 13'. not horribly small but we do have two regular doors and one set of french doors leading into it, and two good-sized windows, so that leaves very little wall space for cabinetry. they left the awful old cabinets and just painted them white. we really want to redo this but it will take more money than we have right now.
the walls are thankfully a very, very pale grey - the best color in the unit. we'll leave that, and instead want to paint the cabinets a deep grey, to contrast with the white marble. we're not sure if we are going to paint just the lower or both upper and lower cabinets. they all have this bead trim that we are not loving so making it all dark and invisible is very appealing.
originally we were thinking of a deep neutral like BM Trout Gray but we just saw the marble and the veins are brown (warm) and not blue (cool) like we expected, so now i am thinking of BM Gargoyle, which is a little more umber. love that color.
here's a view down the hallway from front door to the living/dining room. it's sort of a biscuit brown with a little pink in it, and has a crazy upside-down lampshade over the bulb. we were thinking of doing something nutty here.
Erika Wakerly's Teepee wallpaper would look great! it's silver foil with black screenprint (or white screenprint). it's insane but so cool.
and finally the bathroom. beige-pink tiled shower, somewhat yellow "stone" 12" tiles on the floor. and a light green paint on the walls. ugh.
all i can think is to paint it white. and get this shower curtain and do a nature-theme neutral bath.
this is Larch by Unison for CB2. i think it'll do.

our new view
this is the view from our kitchen-to-be on oak street in san
francisco. it's pretty typical. the house across the way is the
identical layout.

this first post is a test to see if the email posting feature is
working. we will be posting work-in-progress on the one bedroom TIC
